Laurel Shultheis

As a new yoga teacher, Laurel is grateful to join the inspiring work at Third Root Community Health Center. She first experienced the profound aspects of yoga and meditation while studying abroad in Hyderabad,India, and has been cultivating her love for the art of mindfulness ever since.

Laurel has since participated in multiple silent meditation courses, walked across Spain, and attended an Art of Mentoring workshop by the Vermont Wilderness School. All of these experiences continue to shape her teaching and practice today. She firmly believes in strengthening and sharing the connection between the mind, body, soul, and breath, in harmony with the community and natural world around us.

Laurel has been practicing yoga for 5 years. She earned her 200-hour RYT certification at Paramanand Ashram in Indore, India last summer, and her Karma Kids 30-hour certification in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Laurel has taught beginner adult and teen yoga courses in Rhode Island, at a Wellcare Collaborative, and taught children at OMKids Yoga Studio at the Hope Artist Village. Her adult classes emphasize pranayama and meditation, while her kids’ classes can get quite silly.

Laurel has worked with children, teens, and adults across the fields of childcare, residential care, and the mental health field, and has faith that yoga can benefit and should be accessible to everyone. New to the big city, she finds joy exploring Prospect Park, doing yoga on the roof of her apartment building in Flatbush, and learning to play the tabla!
