Jomo Alakoye-Simmons, LAc

Acupuncturist and Qi Gong Therapist

In 2005 I began studies under Jeffrey Yuen in Classical Chinese Medicine and Taoist spirituality. I completed the required studies and received a Masters of Science in Acupuncture in 2008 and still study under Jeffrey Yuen, my beloved Taoist teacher. I’m a practitioner of alchemy (utilizing numerology, essential oil blends and meditation), Qi-gong utilized in massage work and moving and still meditation work. I’ve studied in China, receiving transmission of the Emei Qi-Gong healing system. Additionally, I have studied and am a practitioner of Kundalini yoga/tantra and Tantric energy healing.

Along with offering overall wellness support I have experience working with with childhood/adult traumas (PTSD), dietary and nutritional counseling from Taoist healing traditions which embrace aspects of local food justice and sustainability, sports/dance/physical injuries of acute and severe traumatic nature, reproductive issues (fibroids, menstrual irregularities, and male sexual health), sleep disorders, and relationship-building in regards to family and romantic partnerships.

I consider myself a holistic medical practitioner embracing many modalities of ancestral tradition such as acupuncture, massage, diet awareness in regards to local and seasonal foods, meditation, mantra, essential oil therapy (medical and aromatic), and herbal tincture therapy.

In Harlem, I direct and practice at Harlem Village Community Acupuncture Healing Center (HVCAHC), now in its fourth year. HVCAHC is a vision that came to me when I was 17 years old, simply to create a safe space run by Harlemites (community residents of Harlem) along with practitioners dedicated to community work around the healing arts holistically. I pray this year with the work I’m doing at Third Root to officially move the practice into community ownership and make it a financially sustainable venture for myself and other practitioners.

I’m very grateful and appreciative to be a worker-member of TR. I intend that my skills be in support of the TR community and grow the community. If you see me you won’t miss me, tall 6’9.5″ black man. Say hi, I’m always open to chat a bit if I’m not sticking a needle in someone, cleaning up, making an oil blend or having a quick meal.

Thanks and look forward to seeing you soon.
