John Halpin

John is a graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York, where he earned a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. While at Pacific, John completed clinical internships at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, New York, and St. Vincent’s HIV Center in Manhattan. John also was active in student activities, volunteering for the Many Paths One Medicine Conference hosted by the Student Council, and as an organizer for a group of students promoting the Community Acupuncture movement.
Before beginning his studies in acupuncture, John earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and worked in the field of homeless services and advocacy. Through his work with people experiencing mental illness, John became interested in how alternative forms of medicine could play a role in helping people regain health and rebuild their lives in the face of difficult medical problems. He decided to enter the field of acupuncture, believing that it has much to offer. He is excited to be an acupuncturist at Third Root and to be part of a new national movement of acupuncturists providing affordable community-based healthcare.
