Join Third Root teacher Rachael Zafer for a relaxing candlelit restorative yoga class. Rachael will lead you through a 90-minute yoga practice that begins with a short gentle flow and then progresses to restorative poses that are held for longer periods of time. You can expect long holds in comfortable passive postures that utilize props, gravity, and breathing to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. The workshop will conclude with 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra, also called yogic sleep, to promote a state of deep, conscious relaxation. Please wear warm, comfortable clothing and socks. Blankets are provided but you are welcome to bring your own favorite cozy blanket or eye pillow.
About the Facilitator:
Rachael Zafer joined the Third Root community in 2015 as a volunteer and began teaching weekly restorative and hatha yoga classes at Third Root shortly after. Rachael started practicing yoga over a decade ago in order to cope with stress and anxiety, and as a tool to prevent burnout while teaching in prisons and jails. Rachael has been teaching yoga since 2011 after completing trainings in Chicago and Colorado. Her teaching is trauma-informed, supportive, and focused on the subtle energetic connections between breath, body, and mind. When she’s not teaching yoga, Rachael is a freelance writer, consultant, and facilitator and is involved in several prison education and justice initiatives. Rachael lives in Flatbush, Brooklyn with her husband and two cats.
