A former victim of the Fashion Industry, Booker completed her 200 hour in Prana Yoga and her pre-natal yoga teacher trainings in 2007, and in this process, found her calling to empower youth affected by incarceration through yoga and meditation. She is currently a Senior Teacher and Coordinator of Teacher Trainings for the Lineage Project. Through Lineage she has presented their work at the first Mindfulness in Education Conference at Omega and has been a guest on Sophie Herbert’s show, “Life Coaching with Sophie” on Martha Stewart Sirius radio. Booker also facilitated a Mindfulness-based intervention with the adolescent population on Riker’sIslandfor two years throughNew YorkUniversity, and has taught with the Prison Yoga Project in San Quentin Prison in Northern California. In 2012, Booker completed her training in Mindful Yoga and Meditation through Spirit Rock as a Yoga Dana Foundation Scholarship recipient.
She is also the founder of Urban Sangha Project, a collective that supports the sustainability of Change Makers. USP began at Occupy Wall Street’s Occupy UnConference in 2011 and has presented at the San Francisco Yoga Journal Conference, the Transformative Activism Conference at the Garrison Institute, and offered services at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolinain September 2012. Bookerâ€™s work currently serves Activists and NYC Public School Teachers through weekly classes. She also teaches a 7 week training combining grass roots activism and yoga through Off the Mat, Into the World.
Booker teaches the Yoga In Action program at Third Root and an off-site Third Root class at non-profit offices in midtown.
