Jacoby Ballard is an herbalist, yoga teacher, social justice organizer, facilitator, and fundraiser at Third Root.
Background in Herbalism
Jacoby originally studied western herbalism at the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine in Ithaca, New York, and then studied with Robin Rose Bennett in New Jersey, and has been working with clients for six years. He is currently studying Ayurveda to connect his yoga and herbalism practices. His work has been published in Freeing Ourselves: A Guide to Health and Self Love for Brown Bois, and Trans Bodies, Trans Selves. He conducts herbal consultations at Third Root and is a co-facilitator of Third Root’s Herbal Education Program. He has taught at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism, the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine, Goddard College, Wesleyan College, the Trans Health Conference, and does workshops on herbal medicine for organizations around New York City and beyond.
Background in Yoga
Jacoby has practiced yoga for 14 years and has taught for 12 years. He received his 200-hour certification from Kashi Ashram in Atlanta, and his 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu in Massachussetts. He has received additional training from Street Yoga, the Lineage Project, and Off the Mat Into the World. Jacoby will be running a yoga retreat to Tulum, Mexico, in January of 2013 and another retreat to Costa Rica in March of 2013. Jacoby loves working with students of all bodies, genders, and experiences, and offers his students precise alignment, the lessons of yogic scriptures suited to daily life in the West, and physical challenge with playfulness and compassion.
