Community Acupuncture was developed from a legacy of health advocacy led by the Black Panther Party and Young Lords. The Community Acupuncture format allows several people to be treated at a lower price point, while still allowing for social distancing and sanitization (view our complete COVID protocols here). The experience is soothing and customized to the treatment needs of each individual. Acupuncture needles are administered in points that require minimum disrobing, such as on arms, legs, and sometimes the head.

Some things that distinguish community acupuncture from private treatment, according to acupuncturist Rachel Casiano:

  • It’s closer to what is actually done in China and other East and Southeast Asian countries where acupuncture was developed
  • Since we don’t have to vacate the room for the next patient, on average people are able to rest for longer
  • Being around other people means you get to see people modeling relaxation. If this is someone’s first time getting acu it’s extremely reassuring to see or hear a few people asleep (with needles!) in their general proximity
  • Being around other people provides safety for people with PTSD, survivors, and others who do not want to be alone with a stranger touching them. You also don’t have to undress for Community Acupuncture
  • The combination of these factors creates more control over your experience and health!

As always, acupuncture will also be offered for individuals in our private treatment rooms. You can book both private and community acupuncture below:
